Dolmabahce Palace suffers from a new hotel

Dolmabahce Palace suffers from a new hotel which is being built hastily in the area between the Naval museum and Dolmabahce Palace by constructor company hired by a Tanrıverdi Holding.

The once beautiful silhouette of Istanbul was violated as ugly skyscrapers rise in the horizon as seen between the minarets in the historic peninsula, now the ancient naval museum and Dolmabahce Palace right on the Bosphorus shore are about to fall victims to an ugly hotel in Besiktas district.

The Hotel is being built hastily in the area between the Naval museum and Dolmabahce Palace by constructor company hired by a Tanrıverdi Holding. The 14 store hotel will have 7 stores underground has already reached a height of 24 meters, what exceeds the 18 meter high northernmost building of Dolmabahce Palace and it is the underground constructions what put the Dolmabahce Palace and the Naval Museum at risk. Reports state that the walls of some parts of Dolmabahce Palace have cracked under the pressure.

The minister for culture and tourism, Ertugrul Günay stated his disapproval of the building back in 2010, but Turkey is a country, where a word from Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan can result in demolishing of statues. Earlier this year the ‘ Humanity’ statue in the eastern province Kars was razed to the ground, after Erdogan had described it as ‘monstrosity’. Right next to the hotel that stabs right through the Bosphorus silhouette lies the Istanbul work office of Prime ‘Sultan’ Tayyip Erdogan, which makes the case more ironic.
