CEO Bill Marriott was on hand Monday to celebrate the renovation of his hotel company’s first property in Florida, the Miami Airport Marriott.
The hotel, which opened in 1972, was upgraded to include a more contemporary lobby and upscale restaurant.
The improvements were part of a $74 million upgrade of the entire Marriott complex by owner Thayer Lodging Group.
The upgrades include a doubling of the Courtyard by Marriott to 300 rooms — all new or renovated — and construction of a new 163-room Residence Inn.
“Florida has always been good to us,” Marriott told a crowd gathered for the opening.
