Entry rules for Germany will be relaxed from June 1st

A 3G proof should then no longer be required. However, the new regulations should initially only apply temporarily. What travelers need to know now.

In view of the falling number of corona cases, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach wants to relax the rules for entry into Germany over the summer months. “We will suspend the 3G rule upon entry by the end of August,” the SPD politician told the newspapers of the Funke media group, according to the Reuters news agency. From June 1, travelers returning and other travelers no longer have to prove that they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested.

Travelers from virus variant areas currently have to go into a 14-day quarantine in Germany, even if they are vaccinated or have recovered. According to Lauterbach, this regulation should continue to exist. “If such areas are defined, those entering the country must be quarantined,” says Lauterbach. “Even with lower incidences in summer, we have to remain cautious in the event of a global pandemic.” No country has currently been designated as a virus variant area.

According to information from the Funke newspapers, the change in the Corona entry regulation is to be passed by the federal cabinet on Wednesday (May 25), Reuters reports.

What entry rules currently apply to Germany?

The 3G rule still applies when entering Germany until June 1st. This means that all persons aged 12 and over must present a negative test result, proof of vaccination or proof of recovery upon entry. “People who have stayed in an area classified as a high-risk or virus variant area at any time in the last ten days before entering the country must also observe special obligations to provide evidence and a quarantine obligation,” says the Federal Ministry of Health on its website . If you have previously stayed in a high-risk area, the quarantine period is 10 days, and if you have stayed in a virus variant area, it is 14 days.

Travelers who have stayed in an area classified as a high-risk or virus variant area in the last ten days before entering Germany are also obliged to register digitally. According to the RKI, no countries are currently classified as high-risk or virus variant areas
