The number of tourists who visited South Africa through all its ports of entry during April 2010 increased 1.4 percent year-on-year after rising 8.2 percent y/y in March 2010.
A total of 2.466 million tourists passed through South African ports of entry in April, up from the 2.305 million travellers in March 2010.
These tourists were made up of 807 582 South African residents and 1.658 million foreign travellers.
Stats SA said a comparison between the movements in March 2010 and April 2010 indicates that the volume of arrivals and departures for both South African residents and foreign travellers increased.
There was an increase of 27.8 percent from 327 444 in March 2010 to 418 434 in April 2010 for South African arrivals and an increase of 6.6 percent from 364 913 in March 2010 to 389 148 in April 2010 for their departures.
Foreign arrivals increased by 3.3 percent from 862 333 in March 2010 to 890 590 in April 2010.
