Ukraine: Azarov to Face Another Censorship Motion Against Government

The Ukrainian government is ready to resign, if the Parliament votes for a censorship motion, said Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov Thursday, after he warned that it only corresponds to the Legislative to make such a request.

The resignation of the Ukrainian cabinet is on the competence of the Supreme Rada (Parliament), and if the needed amount of votes is achieved, the government will have to resign, said Azarov in a press release here Thursday.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister said that it is possible said, but also said that he does not fear a second revision of a censorship resolution to his administration in the Parliament just as it was done at the beginnings of December, when the project of opposition fractions Batkivschina, Udar (Blow) and nationalist Svoboda did not get the necessary amount of votes.

According to the Ukrainian legislation, a censorship motion cannot be repeated in the same year. A probable date would be February 2014.

“I don’t fear a repetition of the resolution on a vote of distrust, the Executive Power should feel its responsibility before the Ukrainian people and the Parliament, an institution that has the right to listen a report and to express distrust,” he said in a wide interview to local newspaper Arguments and Facts.

Asked about the tensions and the high level of political worsening in Ukraine, Azarov called the attention on the objectives drawn by the opposition, after a whole wave of massive protests since November 2013.

Azarov also said that the main problem rests on the wish of the opposition to start their presidential campaign with anticipation -it was programmed for the spring of 2015- under the justification to integrate all the European countries, trying to worsen the situation and earn political dividends.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister called the opposition leaders to discuss the aspects for their demands in a negotiation table, and analyze all the arguments.
