Cuban Pentathlon Competitors to World Cup in Mexico

leydi-moya-cubaA quartet of Cuban pentathlon athletes will compete at the World Cup in Mexico, to be held from February 25 to March 3.

Alejandro Guarsh, head coach of the Cuban team, told reporters Wednesday that the athletes will train 21 days in the heights, before the competition, to get in the best possible shape.

The best athletes of the world will be in the World Cup, so the good quality will be guaranteed, and it will be a good chance for Cuban representatives to be taking part in a tournament with a great competitive level, Guarsh said.

Guarsh said the national modern pentathlon team is formed by eight athletes, four women and four men.

Among the women, there is Leydi Laura Moya, a gold medal winner in the first Olympic Youth Games in Singapore in 2010.

Pentathlon, an Olympic sport, includes events like swimming, horse riding, fencing and combined events on shooting and running.
