The 22nd Congress of the Postal Union of the Americas, Spain, and Portugal (PUASP) begins today in the capital, where the action plan of the entity for the 2014-2017 period will be analyzed.
In this edition, to be run until Friday, September 13, delegates from the member countries will discuss cooperation agreements, the regional development program for Latin America, the quality of postal service, package system and financial services.
According to Prensa Latina, they will also discuss proposals that modify regulations, while the General Secretary and the Chief of the Union be elected. They will hold their respective postss in January 2014, the Organizing Committee states.
During the meeting, to be held at the Conference Center in Havana, Cuba will take over during the upcoming four years the presidency PUASP, a member entity of the Universal Postal Union bringing together 192 countries.
During the congress, whose slogan will be “For equity and postal development,” the entry of the Dutch territory of St. Martin, a Caribbean island controlled by France and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is expected.
The PUASP promotes common objectives of the member countries regarding postal and non-postal issues that tend to the modernization of basic postal services through the implementation of individual, bilateral and collective projects.
These should ensure territorial integration, continuous improvement of quality, and the development and modernization of administrative, operational and legal processes.

The PUASP comprises Netherlands Antilles, Argentina, Aruba, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Canada, El Salvador, Spain, the United States, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua.
Also on the list are Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Dominican Republic, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
