A Cut Above celebrates 30 years in MalaysiaA Cut Above recently celebrated its 30th aniversary with a show to remember held in conjunction with the Mid Valley Megamall Fashion Week 2009.

Seventy celebrities had earlier sashayed down the red carpet filled with glitz and glamour.

A Cut Above first began as a small salon in Wisma HLA, Kuala Lumpur in 1979. Since then, Winnie Loo and her husband Richard Teo have transformed A Cut Above to be one of the most reputable salons in Malaysia.

Today, A Cut Above has five branches, a world class hairdressing academy and studio and also the X-Cut chain of salons.

“It’s not easy to achieve 30 years in this hairdressing industry. We have gone through a lot of hardships, criticisms and challenges. With team effort, we are able to make things that are impossible to become possible!” commented Loo, Co-founder & Senior Creative Director of A Cut Above.

At the fashion party themed “A Cut Above Glamorises Your World!”, the guests and celebrities were treated to several exciting performances, including an energetic opening dance act from Creezy Krew and three celebrities comprising Ng Hung Sheng, Danny Koo and Aliza Elizabeth and singing performances by Dina, Candy Cheah and Ferhad.

Another highlight of the night was an extraordinary show by Fabien Wong, makeup specialist of A Cut Above Academy, where he and his team threw a show which was inspired by the theme “Ocean Blue”.

This collection aims to remind us that to make the world a better place to live in, we must take responsibility to save the beautiful planet that we live in.

A Cut Above celebrates 30 years in MalaysiaInspired by the streets, Joe T’ng, creative director of A Cut Above, Bangsar Shopping Centre and his creative team took the opportunity to showcase their collection called “Intensity”.

“I am using bob style and black with colourful finishing in this collection. Well, everyone needs a change! Sometimes it is good to be radical and the best place to start off is with your hair,” says T’ng.

Another collection inspired by a fashion spread featured in Italian Vogue, Faevien Yee, creative director of A Cut Above, Bangsar Village II and his creative team produced “Colourful Minority”.

“The message that I want to bring out is forget about the grunge, minimalism, basic, nude colour and etc which had left us a little too flat for long. Yet right now the creative use of wigs, fake lashes, vibrant colours of eye shadow and outfits and six inches of heels are the fashion for today’s women.

“Other than that, I am also trying to bring colours to the global recession!” explained Yee.
