US Airways received 2.90 mishandled bag reports per 1,000 passengers in August, a marked improvement over the 4.09 ratio one year earlier, said a Department of Transportation report Tuesday.
The report ranked US Airways fifth-best among the 19 largest carriers tracked, ahead of Southwest Airlines, which was eighth, with 3.57. The industry average was 4.04.
US Airways improved on arrivals on time, or within 14 minutes of schedule. It logged 81.4 percent of its flights on time in August, or eighth best, versus 80.8 percent a year ago.
Southwest logged 82.8 percent on time, or sixth best, versus 84.4 percent the year earlier. The industry averaged 79.7 percent.
