Created to restore mural paintings, parks and other public spaces, the project For My Green City includes actions with the aim of returning attractions to this Cuban city and lay foundations for a sustainable conservation, explained its promoters today.

Supported by the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity and local institutions, the program initially plans to retouch five of the paintings made by Cuban and German artists in walls of the city, told Prensa Latina Neilyn Pando, general coordinator of the idea.

This form of expression fostered here by painters from both countries includes illustrations showing symbols and typical characters of the territory, as well as calls to protect the nature, among other themes ranging from realism to figuration or abstraction.

The initiative For My Green City will also sponsor the renovation of parks such as José Martí, located in the foundational site of the western city, added the expert.

In this place, a group of monuments dedicated to the Cuban patriot and intellectual still exist, which were carved in Carrara marble.

During this initial phase -she said- we are working on the creation of projects that will allow to transform or improve the appearance of this crowded squares and places with predominant vegetation.

Signaling the main arteries and training specialists and city dwellers for the sustainable preservation of common areas, also stand out among the priorities of the plan that started this year and whose funding totaled 87 thousand dollars.

Another goal is strengthening the bond of demarcation with the main tourist destinations in Pinar del Río -140 kilometers from Havana-, inserted in the Ruta del tabaco.

At the same time, groups of experts are redisigning the limits of the historical-patrimonial area, that could be declared National Monument, she said.
