New eruptions in Iceland

in Tourism

April 20, 2010

New eruptions in IcelandFlights have gradually resumed nearly a week after North Europe was crippled by the Iceland ash cloud caused by a volcano which erupted nearly a week ago.

The limited air travel came after planes left from Glasgow airport earlier today and it was expected that planes would also leave from Heathrow Airport after 1 PM.

Some flights from Asian countries have already resumed to Southern Europe but many are still stranded as more test flights are expected in more effected area by the ash cloud said Nationalturk News.

However, the news was marred by the new report that the volcanic activity in Iceland had escalated, sending more ash to the skies which is expected to further threaten air travel.

It has already been confirmed that flights from London airports have already been suspended.

“The situation was worsening” said officials from Nats an air traffic control company and continued “The volcano eruption in Iceland has strengthened and a new ash cloud is spreading south and east towards the UK. This demonstrates the dynamic and rapidly changing conditions in which we are working. We will continue to monitor Met Office information and the situation is likely to change overnight.”

Meanwhile the British government was yesterday planning to bring home stranded passengers in Europe with three Royal Navy war ships.

Airports in France, Germany and Netherlands were also due to open on Tuesday but were closed due to the fresh reports of the new ash cloud.

However, several other airports in Southern Europe including Madrid, Athens and Rome were continuing flights but the latest activities in Iceland have slowed down flights planned by airline bosses.
