Bolivian Health Minister Juan Carlos Calvimontes said today that six doctors of his country will attend a preparatory meeting in Cuba on the clinical management of Ebola.
According to the Minister, the meeting will be on October 28th and is the result of the agreements reached at a recent summit between the leaders of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA).
Calvimontes said in a television interview that Bolivian professionals will receive technical training to assemble medical camps if the disease gets into the country.
‘The work they will develop is essentially technical, ranging from the update on clinical management, the work that has to be done, to the care that must be taken especially in the use of personal protective equipment’, he said.
He added that ALBA member states activated an epidemiological network in their territories in order to exchange information and work together on prevention.
The partners of this integrationist block defined last Monday in Havana actions to address Ebola. After the meeting, Bolivia contributed with one million dollars to the United Nations with a view to reinforcing the fight against the virus.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared early last August an international health emergency due to the spread of the Ebola virus in West Africa and called on all countries to take precautions.
