Continental Airlines has filed documents notifying the Department of Justice of its intent to merge with United Airlines.
The documents, required under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, were filed Friday, Continental spokeswoman Julie King said.
Last week, the two airlines announced their plan to merge and form what would be the world’s largest airline. The union needs the blessing of antitrust regulators.
The proposed merger will be the subject of a U.S. House aviation subcommittee hearing in June, Bloomberg News reported.
“We will examine this proposal in detail to understand its potential positive and negative impacts,” said Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Ill., the committee chairman.
