Franchisco Montis (31), an Italian tourist, died mysteriously at a hotel.
Montis, along with Angela Vista and Thomas, reached the city on January 31 and stayed in a room at a hotel in Ramkatora under Chetganj police station.
On Thursday morning, Thomas and Angela asked the hotel staff to arrange for a doctor as the health condition of Montis was deteriorating. Seeing the condition of Montis, the hotel staff advised tourists to take him to the SPG hospital. But, Montis died immediately after reaching the hospital.
Receiving the information of the incident, police arrived at the hotel and interrogated the hotel staff. In-charge DIG Vijay Bhushan said the Italian Embassy had been informed and the body was being sent for postmortem. He said the actual cause of death would be ascertained only after the postmortem. But, the condition of his body hinted that he had died of food poisoning.
