International hotelier Ritz-Carlton plans to add two more hotels to its chain in Turkey, Simon F. Cooper, president and chief operating officer of the company, said.
Speaking during a reception to celebrate Conde Nast Traveller magazine’s Best Business Hotel of 2009 award, which went to the luxury chain’s İstanbul location, Cooper said that one of the two hotels that the company plans to open will be built in İstanbul and another one in the southwestern resort town of Bodrum. “Istanbul has some kind of a magnetic force that pulls you. People just want to make investments here,” Cooper stated, adding that Turkey offers great opportunities in the hotel field. Turkish Airlines (THY) has started to fly to new destinations, and Turkey has been improving its relations with its neighboring countries, he said, noting that these all are a boon for the tourism sector.

Süzer Group Honorary President Mustafa Süzer, also speaking at the meeting, said the Ritz-Carlton İstanbul was the only hotel from Turkey on the magazine’s top list. Turkey mostly attracts middle-class visitors, Süzer said, adding, “This award will create an opportunity to attract more wealthy tourists to Turkey.”
