France has been hit by another museum heist. Thieves broke into the Lalique Museum in Wingen-sur-Moder, smashing the entrance door and six display cases before escaping with jewels worth several million euros.
“Unique pieces were stolen”
The museum houses around 650 works by French glassmaker and jeweler René Lalique. Christian Dorschner, mayor of Wingen-sur-Moder, said the stolen jewels were unique pieces designed by Lalique in Paris in the 1900s.
Investigation launched
The robbery was allegedly carried out by several masked individuals. Dorschner said the alarms and security systems were active when the thieves entered the museum. An investigation has been launched, while the museum will remain closed for several days before reopening safely.
