An Indonesian court has sentenced a 26-year-old man to 20 years in jail for murdering a female Japanese tourist last year on the resort island of Bali.
David Goltar Wicaksono was found guilty Monday by the Denpasar District Court of killing Rika Sano and plundering her property from a hotel in Kuta region on Sept. 25, 2009.
The body of the 33-year-old Sano was found half-naked in the bushes near a beach resort.
The court was told that Wicakson posed as a policeman in order to lure Sano from the hotel. He beat her on the head with a log and sexually abused her as she was dying.
Wicaksono is also charged by the same court with trying to rape Sano’s friend, Mayumi Someya, who escaped unharmed.
