Turkey’s national air carrier, the Turkish Airlines (THY), has increased its market share in flights between Istanbul and Budapest from 1.88 percent to 4 percent, THY’s country director Levend Arisoy said.
Arisoy said the THY carried 79 thousand passengers in 2009 over nearly 70 thousand passengers in 2008 despite a 20 percent drop in passenger capacity in the country due to a global economic recession.
Arisoy said the THY targeted to increase the number of its passengers on Istanbul-Budapest-Istanbul route to 85 thousand and its market share to 5 percent.
THY has reported a 10.3 percent increase in the number of its passengers in the first eleven months of this year to some 23 million in January-November period from 20.8 million passengers over the same period last year.
