The 2011 Winter Universiade Games held in the eastern Turkish province of Erzurum ended on Sunday.
The games, which opened on January 27, closed with a ceremony at Cemal Gursel Stadium and the International University Sports Federation (FISU) flag was handed over to Slovenia, which will host the upcoming Universiade.
Turkish dance group “Fire of Anatolia”, which had also performed at the opening ceremony, displayed a performance to mark the closing of the games.
A total of 2,483 athletes from 52 countries attended the 11-day games in Erzurum, the highest figure in the history of the events.
Russia, which participated in the games with 176 athletes, topped the medal tally at the 25th Winter Universiade Games with 14 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze medals in the end of the competition.
Hosts Turkey won only one silver medal during the games, in figure skating ice dance category.
George Killian, the FISU president, said Turkey hosted one of the best Winter Universiade organizations so far.
