As the recession is hitting the airline industry there are still the budget airlines that continue to grow in Europe.
Ryanair has announced plans to open its first base in Norway creating up to 1,700 jobs. Oslo’s Rygge Airport will become their 37th European base in March at a cost of $200 million with three planes and 16 new routes to add to the six already using the airport. The new services look set to add an additional 1.7 million passengers to the airport according to the chief executive of Ryanair, Michael O’Leary.
There will be an eclectic mix of routes originating from Oslo including Venice, Malaga and Berlin, amounting 100 weekly return flights. This latest news comes just a few days after the airline revealed they were to launch yet more routes from Bristol Airport.
There they will fly to places like Spain, Portugal and Italy and have a new plane introduced to cope with the new services. Liverpool is receiving two new planes as well to handle more routes coming out of the north west. The new routes are expected to create up to 400 new jobs in the UK.
