Tenants living above the noisy, 50-person picket line at the Novotel Toronto Centre began tossing liquids onto the street below, but the second day of the hotel workers strike continued un-dampened.
Union members said the strike would end Friday night at 6 p.m. in order not to interfere with the G20 Summit, beginning Saturday morning mere blocks away.
A driver for the French G20 delegation, who are staying in the hotel, said they were already checked into the hotel and were not affected by the noise.
Picketers were banging drums and blowing vuvuzelas, and delaying some cars but not pedestrians.
Eighty housekeeping and other service staff walked off the job Thursday morning after talks between the union, UNITE HERE Local 75, and the French-owned hotel broke down the night before.
Accor, the parent company, said in a press release yesterday that service would not be interrupted. Management at the Novotel Toronto Centre were not available for comment.
The giant inflatable rat posted across from the hotel entrance remained in place from the previous day.
