Tourism Vancouver is expecting a major boost in Chinese visitors in the coming years thanks to an important rubber stamp from the Chinese Government.
It took 10 years, but Canada finally has “approved destination status” from China, “We figure that by 2015 it’ll be one of our largest if not our largest overseas market.”
Tourism Vancouver’s Stephen Pierce says A-D status means we can now advertise to groups and with specific prices, which we couldn’t do before, “Aside from trips to Canada, we now have the opportunity to be packaged to the United States as a two nation vacation, so that’s also going to increase our appeal.”
Pierce estimates that’ll boost Chinese visitation by 50 percent, bringing an extra 45-thousand people from Mainland China and another 35 thousand from Hong Kong.
