Travel plans for thousands of North East passengers are today hanging in the balance after the union representing 13,500 British Airways cabin crew called seven days of strikes.
The airline faces the longest strike in its history after Unite announced its members at the airline would walk out for three days from March 20 and for four days from March 27.
The announcement follows the collapse of talks aimed at resolving a long-running dispute over jobs, pay and working conditions.
Union officials said that if the dispute was not settled by then further strikes would be called after April 14.
But striking staff have left the travel arrangements of thousands of passengers flying from Tyneside in disarray.

It was still unclear last night what effect the walk-out would cause in the North East, with airport chiefs in Newcastle yet to finalise a schedule.
