Baltimore will add another 29 rooms to its hotel inventory in February.
Hotel Brexton, developed by RWN Development Group, will re-open at 868 Park Ave. in Mount Vernon.
The 129-year-old boutique hotel spent years in disrepair and was vacant for years after its owner died and other re-development attempts failed.
Even with 8,500 rooms in Baltimore, and a low occupancy rate of 58.5 percent, the hotel will face heavy competition in a down market. But the hotel is banking on its proximity to the Maryland Institute College of Art, the Lyric Opera House and the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall to nab visitors, hotel owner Richard Naing said.
With only 29 rooms, it wasn’t hard for the hotel to get early bookings and fill up, Naing said.
So far the hotel has scheduled $30,000 in room bookings through March, though the hotel hasn’t officially started marketing itself yet, Naing said. Naing also owns the Inn at the Colonnade, and is using its sales and marketing team there to push bookings for the Brexton.
Featuring Wi-Fi, continental breakfast, a concierge and flatscreen TVs in each room, the hotel was designed by Kann Partners and built by HOD Contractors.
