{"id":7457,"date":"2019-07-08T09:27:37","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T08:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.turizmtatilseyahat.com\/en\/?p=7457"},"modified":"2024-03-08T10:55:44","modified_gmt":"2024-03-08T10:55:44","slug":"worlds-oldest-temple-in-turkey-draws-global-attention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.turizmtatilseyahat.com\/en\/worlds-oldest-temple-in-turkey-draws-global-attention\/","title":{"rendered":"World&#8217;s oldest temple in Turkey draws global attention"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Gobeklitepe in Turkey&#8217;s southeast added to UNESCO World Heritage list in 2018<\/h2>\n<p>Gobeklitepe, world&#8217;s oldest known temple in southeastern Turkey, has allured more tourists worldwide since its recognition by UNESCO last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen an area is inscribed on a UNESCO list, it becomes one of the best known places in the world\u201d, Celal Uludag, head of excavation team at the 12,000-year-old site told Anadolu agency.<\/p>\n<p>Located in the southeastern Sanliurfa province, Gobeklitepe was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in June 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also ranks among the places recommended by the most important tourism agencies in the world,&#8221; Uludag added.<\/p>\n<p>He said intense work was carried out for the UNESCO registration of Gobeklitepe, with the support of Culture and Tourism Ministry and Dogus Group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVisitor reception centers and parking lots were established, and the roof cover was completed as an EU project for the protection of the excavation area,\u201d Uludag explained.<\/p>\n<p>He underscored that after UNESCO recognition, the number of visitors, especially foreign tourists, significantly rose in the ancient site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the upcoming period, the number will continue to rise,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Gobeklitepe is an official UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is recognized as the oldest temple in the world by many international organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The site got extra attention after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared 2019 the year of Gobeklitepe.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the hike in temperature, high numbers of visitors visit the historical temple, said Kamil Turkmen, chairman of Tourism Profession Committee in Sanliurfa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.<\/p>\n<p>Gobeklitepe was found in 1963 by researchers from universities in Istanbul and Chicago.
