A plane has crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal\u2019s capital, Kathmandu, officials say.<\/h2>\n

US-Bangla airlines aircraft carrying 67 passengers crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Monday.<\/p>\n

Airport spokesman Prem Nath Thakur told the Kathmandu Post the aircraft veered off the runway while it was landing and crashed onto a nearby football pitch.<\/p>\n

Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (Caan) Sanjiv Gautam said that the plane lost control when it attempted to land on the runway. \u201cThe aircraft was permitted to land from the Southern side of the runway flying over Koteshwor but it landed from the Northern side,\u201d said Gautam suspecting the aircraft might have sustained some technical glitches. \u201cWe are yet to ascertain the reason behind the unusual landing\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The plane is believed to have taken off from Dhaka, Bangladesh, before crashing at the airport in nearby Nepal at about 2.20pm local time. The plane caught fire following the crash and an airport rescue team is working with the army as part of a rescue operation.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
