Fittingly, the naming act was performed with champagne and kirsch, the local cherry schnaps speciality of the city and the canton of the same name. Harry Hohmeister, SWISS CEO, conducted the naming together with Dolfi M\u00fcller, the current Mayor of Zug, in the presence of numerous regional guests and media representatives. \u201cWe are delighted that, for the first time in the history of Swiss aviation, we now have an aircraft named after the city of Zug,\u201d Hohmeister said at the naming ceremony. \u201cWe are immensely proud of the Zug,\u201d Mayor M\u00fcller added, \u201cand we look forward to discovering the world with \u2018our\u2019 SWISS aircraft!\u201d<\/p>\n

HB-JMJ is one of fifteen Airbus A340-300s in the SWISS aircraft fleet. The bestowal of the name \u2018Zug\u2019 continues the airline\u2019s policy of naming its aircraft after Swiss cantonal capitals, tourist destinations and local airport municipalities. The four-engined Airbus A340-300 is 63.7 metres long and 16.8 metres high, has a wingspan of 60.3 metres and seats 219 passengers. With its range of 10,500 kilometres, HB-JMJ \u2018Zug\u2019 will be deployed throughout SWISS\u2019s worldwide long-haul network, serving destinations such as Sao Paulo, Miami, Beijing, Tokyo and Johannesburg.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
