The IAG would like to take over or merge with the interested airlines when their tie-up has been completed.
“We have had a number of meetings where we have looked at airlines around the world and identified those that would be attractive to us,” Mr Walsh said.
But he did not disclose any names involved. “We have not had any discussions with any airlines. There is nothing going on at the moment,
“We want to create a platform for like-minded airlines – those who believe that consolidation is part of the answer for the industry.” he added.
It is reported that they are eyeing to include those in emerging new market, such as China and India.
Full mergers or acquisitions is expected, instead of minor investment in other airlines.
British Airays has failed to merge with Australian airline Qantas in 2008.
This year has been a tough year for BA. Due to the industrial dispute with the Unite union, there has been a 22-day strike since March. which greatly affected the business and brand image of the company. The strike was started last year as BA planned to cut the number of cabin crew on aircraft. The relations between the company and workers even intensified when BA took disciplinary actions against union members.
