Sky Bridge 721: The longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world will soon open in the Czechsia

The Czech Republic will soon have one superlative attraction richer: the longest pedestrian suspension bridge will soon open in the popular hiking and winter sports resort of Dolní Morava in the north-east of the country.

North Hessian ski resort of Willingen Sky Bridge 721

The North Hessian ski resort of Willingen actually wanted to make a name for itself in autumn 2022 with the 665 meter long “Skywalk” as the location of the new highest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world, but that will no longer happen. Because in May a bridge will open in the Czech Republic that will be quite a bit longer, as the name of the “Sky Bridge 721” already suggests.

On the “Sky Bridge 721” from one mountain peak to the next

According to the operator’s website, the structure in East Bohemian Dolní Morava in the foothills of the Jeseniky Mountains is 95 meters above the ground at its highest point. Anyone who dares to step on the only 1.2 meter wide “Sky Bridge 721” can walk from one mountain peak to the other at dizzying heights. Visitors enter the bridge at a height of 1125 meters and leave it at a height of 1135 meters above sea level.

“Crossing the bridge over the majestic valley of the Mlýnský creek offers all visitors a unique opportunity to learn more about the local landscape and history through the educational trail ‘The Bridge of Time’,” the operators write. The suspension bridge is just a few meters from the popular “Sky Walk”, a 55 meter high spiral wooden walkway.

Information for visitors of the “Sky Bridge 721”

The operators have not yet given a specific opening date for the “Sky Bridge 721”. The website only mentions “mid-May”. Also, no tickets are available online yet. According to the website, visitors can get to the bridge using a chairlift located behind the Slaměnka hut. The tour over the bridge and the subsequent interactive nature trail should last about 1.5 hours.

Incidentally, the current record holder for the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world is (still) the “516 Arouca” in Portugal, which opened in May. As the name suggests, it is 516 meters long.
