Eco-Tourism on Samos Island, Greece

Eco-Tourism on Samos Island, GreeceSamos is characterised by rich biodiversity and marine and terrestrial resources, with archaeological sites and traditional products which are great attractions for tourists coming from everywhere.

Archipelagos aims to help local communities develop tourism here as an important tool increase the island economy. At the same time we want to avoid kinds of tourism which can have negative impacts on the fragile environment. To this end, we want to put forward some suggestionsto the local authorities so we can develop ‘Eco-Tourism’ that increases the tourist’s awareness of the environmental richness and the great variety of typical Samian products.

To achieve this goal I have prepared two questionnaires, one for tourists and another one for tourist representatives. I am currently delivering these to different tourist facilities on the island. The results from the questionnaires will enable me to analyse the supply and demand of the current tourist industry on Samos and its strengths and weaknesses. This will ultimately allow me to draw up a protocol for Eco-Tourism to present to local authorities.
