Alan Dzagoev, young star of CSKA Moscow Happy With His Goal Against BesiktasAlthough he has held his hands up for the Turks’ consolation goal, the youngster has admitted his pleasure at his fine opening strike.

Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow beat Besiktas 2-1 on Wednesday evening to record their first victory of the Champions League group stage. Youngster Alan Dzagoev opened the scoring and expressed his delight with the final result.

“Before the match, Necid told me, ‘When there is a long pass or a clearance coming to me, get ready and look for the ball. I will lay it off for you.’ That was exactly what happened. He got the ball, laid it off and I went forward and hit it cleanly. I didn’t look where I was placing the shot, but it came off quite well,” Dzagoev explained to the post-match press conference.

“We played much better than on Matchday 1 against Wolfsburg and produced some good football. However, we conceded an unnecessary goal in the dying minutes and I might be the one to blame.

“At 2-0 we started believing in our victory and we just went a bit limp. We gave the ball away and they started to dominate and then scored. But it’s all OK, because we got the three points and that’s what matters.”
