Which countries should you visit in April?

As spring settles in, April becomes one of the most attractive months for travel plans. From the shores of the Red Sea to tropical islands, from European cities to Caribbean beaches, destinations across the world make this month an appealing time for a getaway.

Which countries should you visit in April?

As winter fades and warmer days begin to appear, travel plans naturally start to take shape. In many tropical regions the sea season is already underway, while European cities offer a calmer atmosphere before the busy summer months arrive. That is why the question “Which countries should you visit in April?” rarely has a single answer. From the Red Sea coast to the Indian Ocean, from Southeast Asia’s island world to historic European capitals, April opens the door to a wide range of travel experiences.

Red Sea escape: Sharm El Sheikh

One of the first destinations that comes to mind for April travel is Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt’s famous resort town between the Sinai Desert and the Red Sea. Known for its warm waters and vibrant coral reefs, the region attracts travelers who enjoy both swimming and snorkeling. The clear sea and colorful marine life make the underwater world here especially appealing.

Those looking to add a sense of adventure to their beach holiday often explore the desert landscapes of the Sinai Peninsula. Camel rides and ATV excursions offer a chance to see the region beyond the coast. Feiran Valley provides a surprising green contrast within the otherwise arid landscape, while journeys toward Mount Sinai pass near the historic Saint Catherine’s Monastery. Many visitors also take the opportunity to extend their trip to Cairo and see the pyramids.

Indian Ocean paradise: Maldives

Located southwest of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives continues to promise an unforgettable escape in April. The island nation is formed by small coral islands surrounded by brilliant turquoise lagoons.

Resorts are typically spread across individual islands, where wooden walkways lead to villas built either over the water or along the shoreline. The islands are small enough to walk across in minutes, creating an intimate and peaceful atmosphere. Beyond relaxing on white beaches, travelers can dive along coral reefs, enjoy sailing trips, or try water sports such as jet skiing and kite surfing. Most international flights arrive in the capital, Malé, where travelers can briefly explore cultural landmarks such as the National Museum or the Grand Friday Mosque before continuing by boat or seaplane to their resort islands.

Tropical island world: The Philippines

April is among the warmest months in the Philippines, making it a great time to explore its tropical landscapes. The country’s island scenery ranges from lush rainforests to coral-rich coastlines.

Bohol is home to the unusual Chocolate Hills, a landscape of cone-shaped hills that turn brown during the dry season. Cebu impresses visitors with the turquoise Kawasan Falls and vibrant coral gardens. On Luzon Island, travelers encounter the dramatic Mount Pinatubo volcano, the famous Banaue rice terraces, and the capital city Manila. For a slower pace, beach destinations such as Boracay and Palawan offer postcard-like coastlines and clear waters.

Islands of eternal spring: Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are known for their mild climate throughout the year, and April is particularly pleasant for visiting. Travelers often combine beach time with nature exploration across the volcanic landscapes of the archipelago.

Fuerteventura attracts surfers thanks to its windy coastline, while Lanzarote stands out for the striking volcanic scenery of Timanfaya National Park. Tenerife is home to Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak, rising within a national park of dramatic terrain. Gran Canaria draws visitors to the sand dunes and beaches of Maspalomas, while La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro offer quieter surroundings for travelers seeking a more relaxed island atmosphere.

Thai island retreat: Koh Samui

Koh Samui

Koh Samui, located in the Gulf of Thailand, is another destination that shines in April. The island’s warm waters and tropical setting make it ideal for a beach holiday.

Chaweng and Lamai beaches provide a lively seaside scene, while Maenam and Bang Rak offer a quieter alternative. Beyond the beaches, Koh Samui also features cultural landmarks such as the Big Buddha statue and the Wat Plai Laem temple complex. Inland areas reveal rainforest landscapes and refreshing waterfalls, giving visitors a chance to combine relaxation with light exploration.

Caribbean charm: Cuba

Cuba, the largest island in the Caribbean, also presents many opportunities for travel in April. Beach lovers often head to Varadero, a peninsula famous for its long stretches of sand and clear turquoise waters.

The capital city Havana offers a completely different experience. Colorful colonial architecture, lively plazas, and rows of vintage cars give the city its unmistakable character. Walking through the historic streets reveals layers of culture shaped by centuries of history, music, and local traditions.

Spring cities in Europe: Vienna and Rome

European cities also become particularly inviting in April. In Vienna, the grand buildings along the Ringstrasse highlight the city’s imperial past. Landmarks such as the City Hall, the State Opera House, and the Parliament reflect the architectural legacy of the Austro-Hungarian era. The historic center, Innere Stadt, is home to St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Palace.

Rome, meanwhile, feels like an open-air museum of ancient history. The Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Pantheon remain among the city’s most famous landmarks. In the heart of Rome, the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Basilica stands as one of the most impressive religious sites in Europe. April’s mild spring weather makes it easier to explore the city’s historic streets and monuments.
