We’ll tell you how not to gain weight on vacation!

An ice cream in the afternoon, a large cocktail in the evening – we love to feast extensively on vacation. We usually successfully hide thoughts of any fattening foods or calorie traps – but ten days or two weeks of vacation in a distant country usually make themselves felt on the scales when we return.

Don’t gain weight on vacation: Heed these 7 tips

However, giving up everything that is fun is not the right solution. But if you still want to keep your weight and not gain weight on vacation, you should keep the following tips in mind.

1. Avoid all-inclusive vacations

What the all-inclusive offer is on vacation, the candy cupboard is at home: people like to grab it more often than they actually want. People who book the offer feel obliged to use it while on vacation. It’s not just about breakfast, lunch and dinner. Free snacks and (alcoholic) drinks quickly fill up the calorie account. In order not to be tempted, you can book full board or be very strong with the many delicacies.

2. Use everyday movement

Many hotels and hostels now offer bicycles for hire. This allows you to explore the city or the surrounding area on your own instead of taking a crowded bus or taxi. It’s also more relaxing on your own, as you can decide for yourself what to see and do, and when. Riding a bike also burns a few calories! Just like going for a walk, shopping or swimming in the pool. Use every opportunity to move.

3. Observe the 80/20 rule

In the 80-20 rule, 80 percent of the diet consists of nutrient-dense foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, eggs, and other sources of protein, while 20 percent of the diet can be allocated to more nutrient-poor foods such as chocolate or cake. So you eat a balanced diet, cover the important nutrients and can still treat yourself without getting a fright on the scales.

4. Drink lots of water

Always have a bottle of water with you on vacation. You don’t need to reach for sweet soft drinks on the go. Also, hunger is often confused with thirst. Therefore, first drink a large sip of water and then check whether you are still hungry. This trick can save you calories quickly because you only eat when you’re really hungry.

5. Do sports

In many wellness and club hotels there are numerous sports and gymnastics courses, fitness studios, beach volleyball courts or pools for lap swimming. Yoga and Pilates courses are also often offered, which take place on the beach at sunrise in the morning. So take advantage of these offers to get some exercise. Another plus point: Many sports courses take place outside. Perfect for tanning all over.

6. Take advantage of the buffet

Sounds paradoxical, but it’s not! Take advantage of the large selection at the buffet and try your hand at local dishes. Of course, make sure not to eat too much of the sweet chocolate waffles, but rather to use fresh fruit and quark. For example, look out for fish and seafood at the lunch and dinner buffets. With the selection of dishes, it never gets boring throughout your holiday.

7. Relax

Most importantly, don’t forget why you’re actually on vacation. Right to relax. Therefore, do not stress yourself about paying attention to all your eating habits while on vacation or even doing without anything. That `s not worth it.
